Both researchers and electric car manufacturers consider solid-state batteries to be the super battery of the future. Most recently, Toyota has announced that they expect to launch an electric car with a lithium solid-state battery in 2027-28.

A significant breakthrough is the development of lithium-sulfur batteries, which enhance energy density while reducing weight. By replacing heavier components with lightweight sulfur, these batteries promise longer ranges and more eco-friendly vehicles. Another promising advancement is solid-state batteries.
Competing battery maker LG Energy also presented at the conference. LG is one of Tesla's battery suppliers and one of the largest in the world. It plans to mass produce solid-state batteries a little later than Samsung, by 2030, also starting with premium EVs.

Toyota, the world's biggest carmaker, began looking at solid-state batteries in 2012. Over the years it has even intended to show off working prototypes, although little has appeared. The firm recently announced it had made a “technological breakthrough”, however, with plans to start manufacturing a solid-state battery as early as 2027.
